Statement Regarding Zoning Petition #5703
by Michael L. - Alwin, agent for Edwin and William Rodenschmit
to Rezone 15.1 acres in Section 10
from A-1 Exclusive Agriculture to RH-3
Rural Homes District
Mary and Terry Devitt
4437 Dahmen Pass
Cross Plains, WI 53528
July 13, 1993
Our names are Terry and Mary Devitt . We live at 4437
Dahmen Pass, Cross Plains, with our two sons Joseph, aged 6,
and Guy, aged 4. Our property borders the property to which
this zoning petition is directed. Our home is directly
adjacent to the portion of this property that would be used
for road access to any building site or sites on the property
in question.
We wish to go on record as being strongly opposed to the
effort to rezone this property. We have a number of
substantive reasons for opposing this petition. If this
zoning change is granted, the housing development that it
would permit would have a significant negative impact on our
quality of life, the value of our property, the rural
character of the area where we live, and the safety and well
being of our family.
It should be noted that the land in question is situated
entirely on a steep hill that parallels County Highway P,
just outside of the Village of Cross Plains. The portion of
the hill in question, as it now exists, is a mature oak-
hickory-black walnut woodland. The proposed, unsewered
development of this land would take place at the top of the
hill, directly above our property.
Our concerns about this petition are as follows:
1. ) The strip of land that connects this parcel to
Stagecoach Road and that would serve as an access corridor to
the top of the hill lies within 30 feet of our home. At
present, Dahmen Pass is a private roadway over which we have
easement rights. Although we do not own the access corridor,
we pay the property taxes on it and, with our neighbors and
