Mr. Lyman Anderson, Chairman
Zoning and Natural Resources Committee
875 Union Road
Oregon, WI 53575
Dear Supervisor Anderson:
On behalf of the Board of Supervisors of the Town of Middleton I want to express our
appreciation for the attentive and courteous reception which was extended by you and the
Zoning and Natural Resources Committee on August 10, 1993. As I indicated during my
presentation, our opposition to the conditional use permit requested by Hide-Away Storage
is based on a number of factors, including:
-The Town of Middleton has had an ordinance on the books for many years which
provides that mobile homes may be located only in licensed mobile home parks.
No mobile home park exists in the Town of Middleton.
-The Town of Middleton never issued a building permit for the placement of the
mobile home. Special permits would have been required to move the mobile home on
town roads, specifically Schwartz Road. There is no record that such permits were
ever applied for. Clearly, no permits were ever issued.
-Hide-Away Storage contains a large number of unlicensed and inoperable vehicles in
violation of County ordinances. Contrary to the statements of the representative of
Hide-Away Storage, many of these vehicles are junk and not vehicles which are stored
at the site simply because they have been forced off municipal streets. Even if the
statement were accurate, under what circumstances should the Town of Middleton
become the dumping ground for such vehicles?
-The original zoning ordinance requirements noted by Dane County on June 9, 1987,
indicated the following:
"Outside storage of vehicles, boats, campers, etc., is permitted provided that they
are currently licensed and operable. A temporary building for a caretaker is
permitted provided that it is a temporary building."
We would suggest that it is difficult to argue that a period in excess of six years
represents "temporary."
AUG 199,
3ECEIVEC
ZONING QI!.
