Bartlett, Russell
From: SkalaPix [skalapix @charter.net]
Sent: Monday, November 09, 2009 5:03 PM
To: Bartlett, Russell
Subject: Skala House Cottage Grove RE: past cond. use permit
Hello Russell,
This subject does not have anything to do directly with the proposed building of our new home on Gaston Road,
however your visit today did bring up a few thoughts on trying to open communication with Dane Co. Zoning.
The attachment to this email starts out with a letter that I had written and is dated July 31, 1998. This letter was
submitted along with the application, fee, and the requested information for our home occupancy permit. The
application and request was made before we moved our business to Marty Drive so to assure that all paperwork
was done ahead of time and would be ready. An inspection was made after we moved.
Unfortunately over the next year after our permit was issued, we received a series of 3 letters stating that we
needed to terminate our home business due to non compliance. The first 2 times, we replied with a copy of our
permit and application. After the 3rd note dated August 26, 1999, I made a batch of cookies and delivered them
to the zoning office with a copy of our permit issued 1 year earlier. We are assuming that each time
someone looked up our information, they spelled our name and couldn't find our permit information on file -
therefore issuing a letter. Because we do not have a large amount of foot traffic, we are assuming that we were
not being reported by our new neighbors.
Because we try to be complete in our records as well as life and business practices, these letters were quite
disturbing as well as time consuming in making copies and trying to rectify the miscommunication. Although we
will not need to apply for a sign permit or home occupancy permit as you had said today, we will make sure that
you are notified if it is in our plans to home/business occupy at Gaston Road and that an inspection can be made
before occupancy.
It is our fullest intention with our Gaston Rd. house project, that we keep in full compliance with all papers, zoning,
permits, inspections, etc. and would like your assistance in letting us know if there is anything further that you
need from us at this time. I realize that I had made that request in my last email, however feel it best to reiterate
and obtain any responses for our records.
Our highlighted records state that we will need to call for an inspection after the footings are poured. Tomorrow,
November 10, 2009 Jon has plans to start pouring footings. We will call as soon as they are ready to be
inspected. In the meantime, please let us know if there is any further information you will need.
Thank you,
Toni Skala
4748 Marty Dr
Cottage Grove, WI 53527
(608)839-1700
11/16/2009
