. .
These same costs would also apply to the crUshed rock
products the area farmers, Village of DeForest and the Town
of Windsor purchase each year
As mentioned in the letter from Dane County Highway
Department with tight local government budgets, quote
"anything that reduces our operating costs, such as nearby
mineral deposits, ultimately benefits the taxpayer" per
Dennis Norton P.E. Assistant Commissioner for Dane County.
It gets more & more difficult every year to open new
quarries in Dane County. Therefore, as the existing
quarries are depleted , I feel it makes sense to plan ahead
now, to get all the rock we can out of the existing quarry
areas. Therefore, I ' d like to apply now for a Conditional
Use Permit (CUP) to remove the rock in the hill to the
Southwest of our existing CUP area. The area of the CUP
request has not been farmed , because of the steep slopes
and in places the rock comes right to the surface. After
the rock hill has been removed and leveled , we would
reclaim the area per our reclamation plan and we would
actually gain some new tillable acreage for the future,
which can ' t be farmed right now. Therefore, I believe it
makes sense, yes to the taxpayers, dollars & cents, to
remove all the rock we can from the existing quarries.
Highway improvements, such as the widening of Highway 51
from two lanes to four lanes, from the truck stops to
DeForest, could make it a faster & safer trip for all
motorists.
This would require a great deal of crushed rock . The
closer the source, the cheaper the hauling costs and the
more likely the project can be built, with tighter and
tighter highway budgets and the more lives that can be
saved as a result of those road improvements.
Sincerely,
Paulson Construction , Inc .
William Paulson , President
