Flying J" Plaza, CTH "V" and CTH "I"
November 4 , 1991
Page 2
I have requested a written response from the Wisconsin
Department of Transportation (WisDOT) District Office regarding
the impact on the I-90/94 interchange. A copy of that response
is enclosed. It addresses WisDOT'-s concerns with the
interchange and the process to effect the necessary
improvements .
Access matters on CTH "V" (a controlled access highway) require
action by our Transportation Committee. Driveways on CTH "I"
require a permit by this department. Approval of any
access (es ) would be contingent upon the developer providing
necessary highway improvements to safely accommodate the
increased traffic demand.
It is our opinion that these roadway improvements would require
significant expenditure by Flying "J" , Inc. The County would
also expect Flying "J" to fund the local share of costs
relative to improvements in the I-90/94 interchange area.
If you disagree with our preliminary determination on traffic
demand, we would certainly welcome an independent analysis by a
qualified engineering firm. The analysis should also outline
what improvements would be needed.
I hope this letter explains our concerns . We look forward to
hearing from you and working with you on this matter .
Sincerely,
DANE COUNTY HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT
John A.
