HOW WAS THE NEW SITE SELECTED AND PLANNED?
About a year ago your Parks Commission completed analysis of a community survey
as to the kinds of facilities and activities you wanted. In addition, we gained
insight to the preferred location and cost sensitivity of replacing the current
Town Hall.
Twelve site areas were evaluated, The Old Sauk/Pioneer site best met the criteria:
* Centrally located in the Town with appropriate topography for intended uses.
* Enough acreage for current and future needs.
* Good road access from all directions.
* A seller willing to accept the additional requirements of a governmental sale.
The DNR has viewed the site, approved the appraisal for the site, and given the
Town a $40,000 grant toward purchase of THIS site. This site was the least expensive
land of the 12 areas which were investigated.
To ensure a viable and efficient project the design team of Anthony Pawlowsky,
Architect and Kenneth Clark, Planner was selected to prepare a Master Plan. The
results of their work is contained here. This plan charts a clear course for both
immediate and long term development.
WHAT ABOUT RECREATIONAL LIGHTING?
While there are good arguments both for and against recreational lighting, the current
plan does not show lights. We feel that this issue should not be a pivotal one that
determines whether or not a park is built but rather how a park is USED. A conditional
use permit is required by the County. This process will require that adequate public
hearings be held. Whatever the outcome, the Parks and Recreation Commission and Town
Board will be responsible for regulating use and correcting problems if any arise.
THIS OPPORTUNITY DESERVES SERIOUS CONSIDERATION
Our grant is for this site only. The DNR funded only 20 of the 70 projects submitted.
There is no guarantee that funding for another site would be granted or that the amount
would be similar since funding varies from year to year. Waiting will only increase
site costs. The costs of selecting, evaluating, and planning a site are significant.
The costs already incurred would be lost and further costs incurred for each future site
evaluated.
NO SURE THING
While we have done everything we can to make this an attractive proposal it is not
assured until voted in. Recent elect'ons have been won and lost by just a few votes
making it very important that all residonts take the time to register your views.
The Town Board, the Town Parks Commission, and the Town Plan Commission have all
voted unanimously to approve this move.
NOW THE DECISION IS UP TO YOU - THE VOTER. THIS MOVE WILL NOT
HAPPEN UNLESS A MAJORITY OF THE TOWN VOTES YES ON MAY 16
VOTE AT THE TOWN HALL
7722 MINERAL POINT ROAD
MAY 16, 1989 7AM - 8PM
