A street and row of <br /> homes noWblocks the flow of runoff to the lake. A culvert <br /> system has been installed with very little capacity; with part <br /> of the culvert built apparently above ground level . The result <br /> is flooding west of the street until it overflows into the homes <br /> along the lake. <br /> One alternative to correct the problem is to reestablish a <br /> channel to the lake with enough designed capacity to handle the <br /> desired strorm level . This would be difficult to do now with <br /> all the homes present. Also, the road culverts would have to be <br /> enlarged to handle more flow. <br /> A more practical alternative may be to develop more storage <br /> capacity west the the street. This could be done in coniuction <br /> with any proposed development in the area. This would require <br /> some innovative landscaping and engineering to balance the <br /> discharge and storage through the system. A multi-purpose pond , <br /> properly designed and landscaped , would provide temporary flood <br /> storage, sediment trapping and recreational and visual benefits. <br /> With our current staffing and workload we will be unable to <br /> provide further planning and design assistance. An engineer <br /> with landscaping experience should be retained to assist the <br /> planning and any final designs.
