Austin, Director Madison Municipal Building
Madison 215 Martin Luther King,Jr. Boulevard
P.O. Box 2985
 Madison,Wisconsin 53701-2985
608 266 4635
IVO July 12, 1988
Ms. Shary Bisgard, Chair
Dane County Agriculture, Environment and
Land Records Committee .1111. 2 1988
Room 116, City-County Building
Madison, WI 53709 IiECEiV>`p
Dear Ms. Bisgard: ZONING DIV.
I am writing to offer the City of Madison Department of Planning
and Development's position regarding the rezoning of a portion of
the Burr Weiland property on Maple Grove Road from A-3 Agriculture
to RH-2 Rural Homes District. This rezoning would allow a church
and a day care facility as conditional uses (Zoning Petition #4296
and Conditional Use Permit #683) .
Based on the application, the Capitol and Christian Center
proposes to acquire about 10 acres of the Weiland property. The
Weiland property is currently about 70 acres and is used for
agricultural purposes. The 10-acre site is proposed to be divided
into two lots each averaging 5 acres. Access to the site will be
via a 66-foot wide strip of land from Maple Grove Road. The
Center plans to construct a church, and to operate a day care
facility within the church building. At present, there is no
public water or public sanitary sewer to serve the site.
The City of Madison is proposing to construct a sanitary sewer
line across the Burr Weiland property. This line is intended to
provide gravity sanitary sewer service to the newly recorded
Prairie Hills Addition to Meadowood and also to a portion of Maple
Grove, both subdivisions located adjacent to and North of McKee
Road and within the City of Madison. The sanitary sewer line will
begin at the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District interceptor
line located West of Maple Grove Road on the Gerald Maurer
property and will proceed in an easterly and northeasterly
direction across the Maurer, Weiland and Theis properties and
terminate at McKee Road. (See attached map) The City is now in
the process of acquiring sanitary sewer easements from the above
property owners. The sanitary sewer line is proposed to be
located within the 66-foot wide access strip and also along the
Northwest line of the proposed church site.
In addition, the City of Madison will be acquiring a portion of
the Burr Weiland property as a site for a new communications tower
facility for Madison Metro. The site will be about 16 acres and
will be located at the southeast corner of the property.
