R. Weiman
6031 Lowry Court
Oregon, Wisconsin 53575
Re: Weiman Airstrip
Oregon, Wisconsin
Airspace Case No. 86-AGL-1242-NRA
Dear Mr. Weiman:
The Federal Aviation Administration has conducted an aeronautical study to
determine the effect of the establishment of Weiman Airstrip, a personal-use
airport, on the safe and efficient utilization of the navigable airspace by
aircraft.
Based on that study, we have no objections, however, for personal-use aircraft
operations to be conducted safely at this airport, we recommend that the
proponent take action concerning the following:
1. The obstructions in the runway approach slope surface be removed/lowered,
or the runway threshold be displaced and clearly marked so as to provide a
minimum of 20:1 approach clearance over the following obstructions:
a. Trees off of either end of the runway.
b. Road east of the airport considered a 15' obstruction.
2. The area 125' either side of the runway centerline be clear of any
obstruction.
We point out that Weiman Airstrip is located approximately 8700' southwest of
Peterson Field, personal-use Airport and approximately 15,100' northwest of
Martinson, private-use airport.
We note that a runway of this size is typically used by aircraft designated as
"STOL" only and due to effective runway length that is available for takeoff
and landing, calculation of aircraft performance data may he critical and
should include corrections for temperature and altitude.
We recommend you reference FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-4B, "Utility
Airports", in establishing an acceptable level of safety for aircraft
operations at this airport. This Advisory Circular may be obtained free of
charge from the Department of Transportation, Publications Section, TAD-443.1,
Washington, D.C. 20590.
