, .
recommend a Bypass route to the DOT. We attended all the
public meetings except for one, and informed this company of
our plans to build a home on our property. At one of these
public meetings, an alternative route was suggested that
bridged the Sugar River and traversed our property before
intersecting Hwy 18-151 .
CURRENT ZONING ISSUES
The Town of Verona approved our zoning request. The one
dissenting vote wanted more information regarding a letter
that was being sent to the County from the DOT. We were told
that the letter was not meant to denote any negativism towards
our petition. However, we did not have a copy of the letter
and we presume it will be presented by Bill Fleck .
At the Town of Verona meeting our rezoning petition was
opposed by 3 landowners whose properties are affected by the
other 3 alternative Bypass routes . Although each of these
properties are effected by a different alternative route, they
based their opposition on the belief that maintaining the
status quo of our farmland, ie . vacant and without residence
would act as a positive influence for the selection of the
route through our property.
The second issue that we anticipate is the the possibility of
denial or delay of our zoning request until the Verona Bypass
issue is settled.
ARGUMENTS FOR GRANTING PETITION
1. It is our opinion that the alternative route through our
property is the least viable alternative for the following
reasons . First, this alternative is environmentally
undesirable since it effects the most wetland area . This
wetland area is a natural refuge for migratory birds and other
wildlife . Secondly, the additional cost of bridging the. Sugar
River and extending the project several additional miles is
not cost effective . Thirdly, the 18-151 four lane is
scheduled to extend into the western edge of the City of
Verona . It doesn't seem cost effective to build a 4 lane and
then bypass it by several miles .
2 . Notwithstanding the above opinion, we are fully aware that
the route for the Bypass may go through our property. We
understand that there are no guarantees when a road project is
involved. We have been informed by the DOT of the
compensation procedures involved and we are willing to take
the risks that our home and land may be taken for the Bypass
route .
3 . As to the argument that building a house on our property
