January 13, 1987
Agricultural Land Environment
and Records Committee
210 Monona Avenue
Room 116
Madison, WI 53703
RE: Agenda Item #3856 - Land to be Rezoned Fronting on County
Highway M in the Town of Westport, Dane County, Wisconsin
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I recently received a notice for rezoning land (Petition #3856) covering
land across from 5348 County Trunk Highway M, Section 21, Town of
Westport, Dane County, Wisconsin comprising of 16 acres more or less.
I am opposed to this rezoning for the following reasons:
1. I did not receive proper notice of this proposed rezoning from the
Town of Westport. I understand that there were two previous
meetings, one of which I was able to have a representative attend,
and from that meeting I understand that the Town of Westport has
requested that the matter come back to it for reconsideration. I
further understand that the town board has asked that your
committee take no action at this time.
2. In spite of attempting to contact the developer and having left
word with two attorneys working with him on this matter, I have
been unable to find out from the developer exactly what he plans
to do with the property and how he plans to handle access and traffic.
3. I feel that rezoning to C-1 is far too broad a zoning designation
for the Town of Westport and certainly my neighbor, Dr. Marquis
and myself, who are directly across the road from this development,
to feel comfortable. I understand that this zoning is broad enough
to allow a junkyard.
