U . P . #605
David Weiman
Private Airstrip
Dear Committee Members :
On 7-13-87 the Oregon Town Board held a public hearing regarding
the above conditional use permit request . The Town Board agreed
to recommend the approval of Conditional Use Permit #605 and
proposed a few meaningless restrictions . During the Town Board
public hearing , it was alleged that the petition signed by area
residents meant little and that the signers were uninformed on
the matter .
After the public hearing , I indicated to Mr . Weiman that although
I personally still opposed the proposed airstrip , I could not
speak for the other petitioners who were unable to attend the
meeting . In a gesture of good faith , I suggested that Mr .
Weiman and I write a letter to all the petitioners informing them
of the results of the public hearing and that Mr . Weiman and I
meet personally with each of the petitioners to inform them of
our positions and answer any questions they might have .
On 7- 14-87 Mr . Weiman and I met to review the proposed letter to
the neighbors . We agreed on the content of the letter and I told
him I would be in touch with him to make arrangements for the two
of us to meet with the individual petitioners . On that same
evening Mr . Weiman and I informed your committee of our intent to
contact the petitioners and provided your committee with a copy
of the letter we intended to send . I further explained to your
committee that it was our intent at the completion of the meeting
with each petitioner , we would suggest that they write a letter
to your committee indicating their position on the proposed
airstrip . Or if they preferred , we would provide them with a
stamped , addressed envelope to your committee and a form to
indicate their position on the proposed airstrip .
When I contacted Mr . Weiman the next day , 7-15-87 to begin our
meetings with the petitioners , he indicated that he no longer
wished to proceed with our verbal agreement . He suggested that
spending a minute or two with each of the petitioners would be of
no value . At this time I indicated to Mr . Weiman that in light
of his reneging on our verbal agreement , I would consider myself
