TEPtTATNE ZOITEdG ORDI110CE <br />D NE COUNTY, .PIS C OW IN <br />Wisconsin State Planning Board <br />Ju e 17, 1938 <br />A Zoning Ordinance enacted pizrs:,ant to the provisions of Sections 59.97 and <br />59.99 of the statutes and proviCing penalties for the violation of its provisions. <br />The Board of Supervisors of Dane County does ordain_ as follows: <br />SECTION I. DEFINITIONS <br />For the purposes of this ordinance, certain words and terms are defined as <br />follows: <br />Words used in tie present tense include the future, words in the singular <br />number include the plural number and words in the plural number include the <br />singular number; the word "building" includes the word "structure ", the word <br />"shall" is.mandatory and not directory. <br />Accessory Building: A supplemental building or portions of the main building, <br />the use of which is incidental to the main building. <br />Boarding house: A building other than a hotel where meals are sold, pursuant <br />to previous arrangement and not to anyone who may apply, for five (5) or more <br />persons not members of the family, <br />Building: Anything constructed and designed to stand more or less permanently <br />and occupying a space of land. Whon a building is separated by divisions walls, <br />without openings, from the ground up, each portion of such building shall be <br />deemed a separate building. <br />Buildingi'Front of: The side of a building which faces toward the principal <br />road, street, highlrray or way serving the same. <br />Club: An association or group of persons organized for some common purpose <br />but not including such association or groups organized to render a service which <br />is customarily carried on as a businoss. <br />District: A part or parts of Dane County for which the regulations relating <br />to the use of land and buildings are uniform. <br />Dwelling, Single Family :' A detached building designed for and occupied or- <br />clusively by one (1) family. <br />Dwolling, Multiple Family: A building or portions thereof used or intended <br />to be used by two (2) or more families. <br />Family: Several individuals living together arnd cooking on the premisos as a <br />single housekeeping unit, together with all necessary employees of the family. <br />Garage, Public: A building cr portion thoreof used for the housing or care <br />of more than three (3) solf- propelled vehicles or where any such vehicles are <br />equipped or repaired for remuneration or' kept for hire. <br />Home Occupation: A gainful occupation conducted by members of the family <br />only, within its place of residonco, provided that the space used is incidental <br />to residential use acid that no article is sold or offorod for sale except such <br />as is produced by such home occupations. <br />Lodging House: A building other than a hotel, where lodging only is provided <br />for compensation pursuant to previous arrangement and not to anyone who rLay <br />apply for five (5) or more persons not members of the family. <br />Non - conforming Use: A building or premises occupied by a use that does not <br />conform to the regulations of the district in which it is located. <br />Roadside Stand: A farm structure used or intended to be used solely by the <br />otinZcr or tenant of the farm on which it is located for the sale of only the <br />seasonal farm products of the inuaodiate locality in which such roadside stand <br />is located. <br />Setback Lines: Lines established adjacent to highways for the purposo of <br />dofining limits within which no building or structure or any part thereof shall <br />be erected or permanently Yinintainod.
