It TENTATIVE ZONLNG ORDINANCE DANE COUNTY, V,TS C ONS IN Wisconsin State PI Xing Board Julie 17, 1938 A Zoning Ordinance enacted pursuant to the provisions of Sections 59.97 and 59.99 of the statutes and providing penalties for the violation of its provisions. The Board of Supervisors of Dane County does ordain as follows: SECTION I. DEFINITIONS For the purposes of this ordinance, certain words and terms are defined as follows Words used in the present terse iiiclude the future, words in the singular number include the plural number and words in the plural number include the singular number; the -v-ord " building" includes the word "structure ", the word "shall" is mandatory and not directory. Accessory Building: A supplemental building or portions of the main building, the use of which is incidental to the main building. Boarding house: A building other than a hotel where meals are sold, pursuant - to previous arrangement and not to anyone w1io i:i.y apply, for five (5) or more persons not members of the family. r� Building: Anything constructed and designed to stand more or less permanently and occupying a space of land. When a building is separated by divisions walls, without openings, from the ground up, each portion of such building shall be deemed a separate building. Building;'Front of: The side of a building which faces toward the principal road, street, highway or way serving the same. Club: An association or group of persons organized for some common purpose but not including such association or groups organized to render a service which is customarily carried on as a businocs. District: A part' or parts ,of Dane County for which the regulations relating to the use of land and buildings are uniform. Dwelling, Single Family:' A detached building designed for and occupied ex- clusively by one (1) family. Dwelling, Multiple Family: A building or portions thereof used or intended to be used by two (2) or more families. Family: Several individuals living togethor oazd coo'_•ring on the premisos as a single housekeeping unit, together with all necessary employees of the family. Garage, Public: A building. or portion thereof used for the housing or -care of more than three (3) self- propelled vehicles or whoro any such vehicles are equipped or repaired for remuncration or kopt for hire. Home Occupation: A gainful occupation conducted by members of the family only, within its place of residence, provided that the space used is incidental to residential use and that rio article is sold or offorcd for sale except such as is produced by such home occupations. Lodging House: A building other than a hotel, where lodging only is provided for compensation pursuant to previous arrangemont and not to anyone who may apply for five (5) or more persons not members of the family. Non- conforming Use: A building or promises occupied by a use that does not conform to the regulations of the district in which it is located. Roadside Stand: A farm structure used or intended to be used solely by the o,r?er or tenant of the farm oa tiJhich it is located for the sale of only the seasonal farm products of the immediate locality in which such roadside stand is located. Setback Lines: Lines established adjacent to hip h;ays for the purpose of dofining limits within_ ,,rhieh no building or structure or any part thereof shall bo erocted or permar!ontly a so tback line" means betwoon the setback line and the highway ri oht of inray. -I-
