equivalent. Other stable and permanent structures may also be used as
witness monuments such as bridge abutments or building foundations, if
necessary. When a corner is located in a bituminous roadway, the 8 inch spike
and washer may be used for the corner location in conjunction with more
substantial witness monuments of 1-1/4 inch diameter rebar, 30 inches in length
or equivalent. The concrete set stems will be available, but not required. In
unprotected or unsafe areas, the corner location may be computed and
mathematically referenced with the approval of the Dane County Surveyor, in
conjunction with more substantial witness monuments of 1-1/4 inch diameter
rebar and 30 inches in length, or equivalent. All witness monuments are to be
placed within a reasonable distance to the section corner monument. As a rule,
reasonable in this case is so that a surveyor could set up a transit or total
station and measure to all witness monuments form one set up location.
Where feasible, 1 inch wide, orange "Thin Line Posts" (TLP) will be set next to
all section corner monuments and witness monuments. Said TLPs and a driver
will be supplied to the selected vendor. TLPs should be set behind witness
monuments facing the section corner monument.
There will be three separate categories for the purposes of this project, as
follows: Existing and Undisputed Corners, Obliterated Corners, and Lost
Corners. In all categories, New Monument Records, Section Summary Sheets,
and all other deliverables are required. PROVIDER should perform the
following work:
Existing and Undisputed Corners are Section Corners that have been
previously set and are found intact, or enough accessory evidence
remains to relocate and replace the corner location without a great deal
of research and extensive field survey. Said corners may be missing
some or all accessory or witness monuments or the section corner itself.
Found accepted corner locations will not need further investigation for the
purposes of this contract. Double corners 200 feet of one another that
allow for a single set of witness monuments shall be shown on one
Monument Record with coordinates given for both corners. These types
of corners shall count as 1.5 corners for billing purposes.
Obliterated Corners for the purposes of this project are corners where no
physical evidence of the corner from a prior monument record can be
found, but there is sufficient evidence and information from nearby
surveys or other information that allow the corner location to be re-
established without the need to survey to surrounding PLSS corners. In
the event two or more different record corner locations exist and further
investigation is necessary to determine the accepted corner location, will
fall in this cost category as well.
Lost corners are corners that either have no record of being re-
established since the original government surveys or have been
completely destroyed along with all accessories and no other reasonable
evidence exists to re-establish the corner location. Original government
notes and proration or other methods may be necessary to establish a
corner location in this scenario, including extensive field survey work.
